Editor’s Notes

Hi again, folks! Did you miss me? Do you love me? Oh wait, I’m not Gary
Glitter…

Obviously, something went terribly awry in August, which resulted in an
extended silence on my part. Let me put it this way: nepotism
sucks! A year ago, I was “given” a co-worker who had
very little in the way of qualifications, but happened to be the daughter
of a Vice-President at a large customer of the parent company of my
employers. I mean, yes, she’s a nice person, but hello, this is a
technology field, and we need people with clues! So I spent more than
a few months imparting clues to her, and eventually she got the hang
of stuff and became a useful member of the department. She even started
to take on a managerial role! But then, the day after the Philadelphia
concert, her father became a Vice President at one of the largest
competitors of the parent company of my employers. Wham-o,
the two-edged sword of nepotism swung the other way, and I found myself
without a co-worker.

The lesson here? Nepotism makes people hire people who aren’t qualified,
and then, once they become qualified, fire them. Stupid, stupid,
stupid!
